Common Oral Conditions In Adults And DIY Personal Care Products

By Kimberly Myers

It is important to maintain a good care routine using DIY personal care products to avoid developing dental conditions like the periodontal disease. This gum disease is more prominent in the elderly people than it is in young people. This is because the human immune system deteriorates as a person gets older.

The periodontal disease which is commonly known as the gum disease is caused by excessive plaque and tartar that is built up on teeth. The build-up mainly consists of un-brushed food particles. If left untreated, the plaque and tartar attack the jaw and the support structure. This leads to fangs becoming loose or at worst falling out.

Bacteria multiply more quickly in warm and humid places. This makes the mouth a perfect place for it to breed. Practicing good care routine like brushing teeth or flossing are the ways used to remove the bacteria and prevent the building up of tartar.

If the tartar is not medically removed by the dentist, it causes more harm to the gums also. The inflammation of the gums is known as the gingivitis. In this case, the gums are swollen and bleed easily. However, this can be controlled by regular cleaning from a dentist and daily home care i. E. Brushing and flossing. At this stage, there are no teeth losses.

If gingivitis is left untreated, it can develop into periodontite. This means the inflammation all around the tooth. Here gums retrieve away from the molars and incisors and create spaces that are called pockets. These pockets then become infected. As the plaque can spread then grows under the gum line, the immune system attaches bacteria. In this case, there would be excessive bacterial toxins in the infected area. When the bodys natural response to fight infection and bacterial toxins combine, they start to break inside the bone and the support structure. If left untreated the teeth eventually get loose and are removed.

Gum disease is caused by a number of factors. Often, it is caused by smoking. In the event that smoking is the primary cause; chances of successful treatment are very low. In girls and women, it is usually caused by the change of hormones. Hormonal changes are known to make gums more sensitive and easier for gingivitis to develop. Other illnesses and their treatments affect the health of gums. These may include AIDS, Cancer and Diabetes.

Medication also causes gum inflammations. This happens in two ways. Firstly, medication promotes overgrowth of gum tissue. This excessive gum tissue tends to get stuck on molars and incisors if good charge routine is not practiced. If left for a long time, it starts to build up into plaque and tartar. Also, some medication side effects include dry mouth. In this case, there will not be enough saliva to help protect the mouth from potential bacterial infections.

It is recommended that you visit a dentist should you feel symptoms of oral disease. The signs and symptoms include bad breath, red swollen gums tender and bleeding gums, loose molars and incisors, painful chewing, elusive gums or big appearing fangs. Having regular dentist visits and proper good treatment routine will help control the symptoms and eventually have healthy gums.
